first year lab

Introduction to the disciplines of architecture, landscape architecture, industrial design, and interior design through fundamental design theories and practices. We will address basic elements of design visually, conceptually, and haptically. Studies will include exercises in two and three dimensions, using various materials and tools. We will inquire into the process of design, discover through experimentation, develop aesthetic judgment, and find means of self-evaluation. Expect an emphasis on intellectual discipline, dialogue, assertion of interest, and a self-motivated search for critical issues.

Foundation Design Laboratory

Studio will be primarily organized based on individual exercises to be performed within a given deadline. In addition, seminars and group presentations will add to the discussions of each exercise. The outcome of the work is to explore the basic elements of design and bring to fruition the skills that enable the process of design and the development of ideas. The process of making is essential to your development as a designer. To that end, expect a significant amount of model making and explorations through drawing mediums.
